Why We Love The Irish Pub, At Home And Abroad!

“God invented whiskey so the Irish wouldn’t rule the world.” – Jim Bishop

Let me set the scene. Everyone in Ireland goes to the pub to meet their friends, partners, work colleagues, or just strangers. Some pubs can seem like an interrogation room. The locals want to know who you are, where you came from, who your parents are before you have even ordered a drink. You can forget about being shy in a pub in Ireland as people will talk to you whether you want them to or not. That’s the Irish for you.

Why You Will Never Settle In One Place After Travelling (And Why You’ll Never Feel Completely At Home Again)

“You will never be completely at home again because part of your heart will always be elsewhere.” That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.

I had spent the last eight years of my life in some form of education and with a PLC in Nursing under my belt, I realised I no longer wanted this as a career choice. After a lot of thought, I decided to do a diploma in Media Moving Image followed by a Degree in Film and Video. Travel was always on the cards and I wanted to see the world, with a degree under my belt I decided to take flight.

Off The Beaten Track: Donegal, Ireland’s Secret

I had the pleasure of spending the weekend in the picturesque sea-side village of Rathmullan on the Fanad Peninsula in Co. Donegal. Believe it or not, this is my first time exploring this beautiful part of Ireland and I wasn’t disappointed. I have lived quite close to Donegal for most of my life and yet I have barely toured or visited a fraction of it. Sadly, this is true for many Irish people as it is the most northernmost county of the Republic of Ireland and quite the trek to get to. Be that as it may, I would recommend making the trip despite the long journey; the experience is absolutely worth the wait.

Chillin’ with the Frockadvisor Film Crew

Frockadvisor has taken Ireland by storm in the past month. For those of you who are unaware of this brand new app let me explain.

The brainchild of Brendan Courtney and Sonya Lennon. An app that lets you connect with your fashion community. For example, you see an item of clothing that you like, you can post a picture of it, and your retail community will tell you what they have that’s the same or similar. And, if you can’t find a visual, just tell them what you want – those massive heels or that dress with polka dots – and they’ll post you pictures of a match. I have the pleasure of being part of the fantastic film crew and edit current fashion for the online content.

Life of a Festival Volunteer: Another Love Story

After the colorful performance of the Guerilla Aerialists, a group of performers reminiscent of old school travelling troupes, the crowd, gathered behind the manor house, dispersed. But in the distance, on the far side of the house, music waxed from the “The Cosmic Caravan,” a remix of Talking Head’s “This Must Be The Place,” drawing the people together, instilling a bout of fever.

Dance fever.

With the sun shining, brightly, but slowly waning, giving way to dusk, the festival-goers, some masked with vibrant facepaint, others in elaborate dress, became entranced by the beat.

And so they danced.

Off The Beaten Track: Tivoli Theatre Car Park in Dublin

Tucked inside Francis St, a side street of the gritty Thomas St, is an oasis of colour, the Tivoli Theatre Car Park, Dublin’s own “5 Pointz.” As someone who walks down Thomas St everyday to get to work, it took me five months before I took the time to check this place out.

I read about the car park in Secret Dublin a few months ago and penciled it onto my to-do list. All I had to do was make a right turn while on my way home one day to see this marvellous site. But right turns can be tricky, eh?

I blame the rain.

Become A “Viking.” Roar And Shake Your Fists At “Celts.”

Viking Splash Tour

If you’ve spent any time in the city centre of Dublin, you’ve probably noticed the screaming hordes of Vikings (or people wearing Viking hats) being driven around in yellow tanks. It’s hard to understand what the fuss is apart until you don your Viking helmet.

But when you do, boom!

Your transformation is complete. You are now a Viking raider and everyone else outside your yellow vessel is now a “Celt.”
